Thats because, according to Dark Phoenix actor Tye Sheridan, they were originally Skrulls. Yes, the same shape-shifters who played such a significant role in the recent Captain Marvel movie. And then Jean comes down in the front of the U.N., and causes there is this huge battle between the guards at the U.N. Jean Grey, and all the guards turn out to be Skrulls. And then Jean and Scott are Scott is fighting Skrulls in the fountain. He gets thrown into the fountain in front of the U.N. And then Jean comes down and basically fights all of the Skrulls off, and then blasts back off into space. Loading Dark Phoenix underwent major reshoots to its latter half. Deadline recently claimed it wasnt true that these reshoots were to differentiate the film from Captain Marvel, as had previously been reported, but instead to alter the ending from a less intimate one to one depicting the team in battle. Even if that is indeed the case, the fact that Sheridan refers to the villains as the Skrulls would suggest those Captain Marvel similarities didnt go unnoticed. Both films feature shape-shifting aliens who have lost their homeworld and are seeking a new one as well as a source of immense cosmic power, a quest which leads them to Earth. Except Captain Marvels aliens, the Skrulls, turn out to be good guys. Dark Phoenixs DBari, led by Jessica Chastains Vuk, remain villains throughout. It must be noted that before Fox and its Marvel properties were acquired by Disney this year, the screen rights to the Skrulls were actually shared by both Fox and DisneyMCU. This is how the character of Quicksilver could appear in both the X-Men movies and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but played by different actors.
